ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE PROGRAM LEADER
Background:
Kingsway Baptist Church (KBC) is a Christian neighbourhood church that seeks to help people and engage in the community like Jesus did. Together with another church, KBC has launched a weekly conversational English program for newcomers to Canada starting in mid-2025. Things have gone well for these volunteer-led classes and we now have about 20 regular students.
The success of this program has made KBC aware that we can provide further moral, social, spiritual support to these newcomers as they face daunting challenges to settle in a foreign land, culture, and economy. Many students are curious about Christian faith, and this provides an opportunity. KBC plans to launch a Bible-based daytime English as a Second Language (ESL) program to support newcomers to Toronto. This program will be based at KBC’s church facility, which is located near Royal York subway station.
To help coordinate and launch these new Bible-based ESL classes, KBC is seeking to hire an ESL Program Leader who will lead, develop and coordinate the program.
Overview of the Role:
The ESL Program Leader is a Christian self-starter who is passionate about helping newcomers. You will have extensive experience as an ESL instructor (possibly including certification). You will be leading the development and launch of a Bible-based English curriculum at KBC to support the church’s outreach efforts. And you will leverage your strong planning and people skills to coordinate the overall program.
The ESL Program Leader role is a part-time contract position for a term of one year (12 months) under the supervision of the Outreach Volunteer Leader at KBC. We envision that this position can be extended for subsequent 1-year term(s), if the employer and the employee are amenable.
